Cast iron pump housings dissipate heat better and tend to last longer under heavy, continuous use. Plastic housings cost less and work fine for homes that only need the pump occasionally. Battery Backup: Worth the Extra Cost
A primary pump running on household electricity stops working the moment the power goes out. That’s often the exact moment you need it most, since major storms cause both flooding and outages at the same time. A battery backup system will run the pump for several hours to a day or two depending on how much water it has to move and the battery’s capacity. We size the battery to the pump, not the other way around.
