Epoxy coating seals that surface, builds a barrier against chemicals and abrasion, and gives you a floor that can handle pallet jacks, racking systems, and daily foot traffic without breaking down.
Bare concrete in a warehouse setting has a problem: it’s porous. Oil, hydraulic fluid, and cleaning chemicals soak into it over time, and the surface starts to pit and crumble under repeated wheel loads. Epoxy resin fills that porosity and creates a hard, chemically resistant layer on top.
It’s a straightforward fix for a problem that gets worse the longer it’s ignored.

Most warehouse floors we quote in the Raleigh area end up in the 100% solids category. It has almost no VOCs, cures fast, and stands up to the point loads that come from steel racking legs and loaded pallets sitting in one spot for weeks at a time.
What Warehouse Owners Actually Care About
We’ve done enough of these jobs to know what matters to the people running the building, not just the people designing it. Here’s what comes up in almost every conversation:
- Downtime. Most facilities can’t shut down for a week. We schedule work in sections or during off hours so operations keep moving.
- Chemical spills. Battery acid from forklift charging stations, hydraulic fluid, cleaning solvents. All of it needs a floor that won’t stain or degrade.
- Traction. A polished epoxy floor looks great and can also be dangerously slick near loading docks. We add anti slip additives where it matters.
- Line striping. Aisle markings, pedestrian paths, safety zones. This gets built into the coating, not painted on separately where it can peel.
Brands matter here too, and we get asked about them often. We work with materials from Sherwin-Williams’ General Polymers line, Sika, and Rust-Oleum’s industrial coatings division, depending on the job. ArmorPoxy and Dur-A-Flex also come up for mortar systems on floors with significant damage.
None of these is automatically the “right” choice. The system has to match the slab condition, the traffic type, and the budget.
The Install Process
Prep work determines whether an epoxy floor lasts 15 years or 3. We diamond grind the concrete to open the pores and remove any laitance or old coatings. Cracks and control joints get filled.
Moisture testing happens before anything goes down, because trapped moisture under a coating causes blistering and delamination, and that’s a callback nobody wants.
Once the slab is ready, we apply a primer coat, then the base coat, then broadcast media or flake if the spec calls for it, then a topcoat. Cure times vary. Foot traffic is usually fine within 24 hours. Full chemical and heavy load cure can take 5-7 days depending on temperature and humidity.
A Few Numbers Worth Knowing
Properly installed 100% solids epoxy can handle compressive loads exceeding 10,000 psi. Most warehouse epoxy systems carry a 5 to 10 year performance life before recoating is needed, longer with proper maintenance and periodic resealing.
That’s a real return compared to bare or sealed concrete, which typically needs patching or resealing every 2 to 3 years in high traffic zones.
